Google Analytics 4 Setup for SEO
Google Analytics 4 setup for SEO work
Out of the box GA4 collects basic data, but understanding what is working in search requires configuration: deciding which actions count as valuable and how to separate traffic sources.
What is included
- correct tag installation without duplicated events;
- configuring key actions: enquiry, call, order, subscription;
- linking with Search Console — so queries sit alongside behaviour;
- filtering internal traffic, so your own visits do not distort the statistics;
- reports built around specific questions rather than the default set;
- verification that data is being collected correctly.
The most frequent problems
A duplicated tag. Installed through a plugin and again in the theme — every metric is doubled and bounce rate is understated. It usually surfaces months later.
Key actions not configured. You can see traffic, but not whether it produces enquiries. The data exists; decisions cannot be made from it.
Internal traffic not filtered. On a small site your own visits can account for a noticeable share of the statistics.
About the limits
Analytics shows what is happening but does not say why. It is a diagnostic instrument, not a source of ready answers — and it is only useful when something changes as a result.
