SEO Support for Site Migration and Redesign Service

SEO support for a site migration or redesign

The most expensive mistake when changing platform or design is a traffic collapse a month after launch. The cause is almost always the same: nobody took care of mapping old URLs to new ones, and the search engine got hundreds of 404 pages instead of rankings that took years to build.

When you need this service

  • moving to a different platform — from OpenCart to WooCommerce, from a custom-built site to a CMS;
  • a version upgrade that changes the URL structure;
  • a redesign that changes the section structure;
  • merging several sites into one, or the other way round;
  • a domain change.

What happens BEFORE launch

This is the key part: most of the work has to be done before the new site goes live.

  1. Inventory. A full list of the old site’s pages with traffic and ranking data — to know exactly what must not be lost.
  2. Redirect map. Every old URL gets a new one. Pages with no counterpart are decided individually: merge, keep or retire deliberately.
  3. Structure check of the new site: are headings, texts and markup preserved, and is it not accidentally blocked from indexing.
  4. Technical readiness: sitemap, robots.txt, canonical URLs, speed.

What happens AFTER

Launch is not the end of the work. Next: checking that redirects really work and do not form chains; watching crawl errors; monitoring indexation of the new URLs; comparing traffic by section to catch drops on specific pages, not just the overall number.

Honest about the consequences

Even with flawless preparation, a dip during the transition is normal. The search engine needs time to reindex the site and transfer signals to the new URLs. The job of this support is to make that dip small and short, not zero: zero does not happen.

Related: migration to OpenCart 4, upgrades between versions, moving between servers — the technical side; duplicate cleanup and a technical audit — if problems have already appeared.

Before and after

Before
  • Traffic collapses after the new site or design goes live
  • Old URLs lead nowhere, and every earned position starts from zero
  • The new site launches closed to indexing, or loses its headings and markup in the transfer
After
  • Before launch: an inventory of pages with traffic and positions, plus an old-to-new URL map
  • The new site checked: headings, markup, indexing rules, sitemap
  • After launch: redirects verified, crawl errors and indexation of new URLs monitored
