Mobile Optimization for SEO
Mobile optimization
Search engines assess a site by its mobile version — that is the one used for indexing. So if the site is awkward or slow on a phone, it affects rankings overall, not only for mobile visitors.
What I check and fix
- Content parity. If the mobile version has less text or hides part of the content, the search engine sees exactly that trimmed version.
- Speed under real conditions: mobile data and an average handset, not a test on a fast connection.
- Tap comfort: button sizes, spacing between links, form fields.
- Layout shifts during loading — when you aim at a button and the page moves.
- Pop-ups that cover the content the moment the page opens.
- Horizontal scrolling — the classic sign of unfinished styling.
- Readability: font size and contrast.
The most common finding
The site is nominally responsive — the layout reflows to screen width — but the phone still downloads the same large images and the same scripts as a desktop. Formally everything is fine; in practice the page takes several seconds to appear.
The second typical problem is checkout. The catalogue is comfortable, but at the payment step the fields are tiny, the keyboard covers the form, and the "Next" button sits off screen. That is exactly where orders get lost.
