Migration to OkayCMS
Migration to OkayCMS from another platform
Moving a store onto OkayCMS with data, page addresses and search rankings preserved. Most arrivals come from OpenCart, PrestaShop and home-grown systems.
What gets transferred
- products with descriptions, specifications, variants and images;
- categories and the catalogue structure;
- customers and order history;
- page addresses — so rankings survive and you do not generate a field of 404s;
- delivery and payment settings, within what the new platform supports.
What needs particular attention
Different data models. What is a product option on one platform may be a separate product or a specification on another. The mapping is done before the transfer, otherwise the catalogue has to be sorted out by hand afterwards.
Page addresses. URL structures differ between platforms. Transferring products alone leaves every old address broken — a mapping table and redirects from old addresses to new ones are required.
Functionality that does not exist. Some modules on the source platform have no counterpart. That surfaces during the audit stage, not after the move.
Order of work
An audit of the current store and a list of what will not move as is. OkayCMS deployed on staging. Data transferred with row counts verified at every step. Addresses and redirects configured. An end-to-end purchase test. Cutover with a rollback plan.
An honest word on whether it is worth it
Migrating to another platform is an expensive operation, and doing it because "this one is better" is not a good reason. It is justified when the current system obstructs specific business tasks. If the problem is speed or a handful of modules, fixing what you have is cheaper.
